Planning update – Save our Crown

At the last Parish Council meeting, the planning application 20/02475/COU for the change of use of The Crown Inn, Fivehead, was reviewed.  The Parish Council is strongly opposed to this application, on the grounds that this is the village’s only remaining public house, which lies at the heart of the community, and, in ‘normal times’, provides an important base for socialising and bringing people together.  For decades, it has also been enjoyed by many local clubs and organisations.

Recognising the value that our community places on this local asset, the Parish Council has applied to nominate The Crown as an ‘Asset of Community Value’.  Please click here for further details on this process and how it offers opportunities to keep buildings like this in public use, ensuring they remain a vital social hub.

Working together as a community, it is hoped The Crown can be brought to life again so it can help provide services to reduce social isolation, particularly whilst amidst the pandemic, and provide a community space for current and future generations to enjoy.

A local community group called ‘Save our Crown’ has formed to support the community in retaining its last pub and is currently conducting a survey to see what people would like to see from the pub and if there is enough interest to form a co-operative to run the pub as a community venture, if it does not sell as an existing private business.  For further details and to complete the survey, please click here.  Please note the survey closes on 20 October 2020.

If you would like to make any comments on the application for Change of Use to South Somerset District Council (SSDC) Planning, the deadline has been extended to 5pm on 4 November 2020.  Here is a link to the planning documents for further information, or to make your comments on the SSDC website.
