Folk and Acoustic Music at The Crown Inn

at the Crown Inn, Fivehead, Somerset

For our opening night, on Saturday 15th September our guests are a fine duo, well known on the local folk circuit, including major festivals: Alison Frosdick and Jack Burnaby.

Jack and Alison have worked their way up through the clubs over the last ten years, recording two acclaimed CDs along the way.

This year they performed for the first time at Sidmouth, Broadstairs and Whitby Folk Weeks.

Originally from Hampshire and Somerset, they’re well-rooted in the folk music of England, as these were among the most collected counties of the Edwardian revival.

With Alison’s solo vocals and Jack’s delicate, considerate playing, their repertoire could be described as totally minimalist, starkly pared down to suit a musician and singer.

This duo show a lot of respect to the tradition, and it’s been said more than once that Jack’s squeezeboxes and Alison’s voice were made for each other.

Folk at its basic best.
