QUALIFICATIONS FOR ELECTION AND HOLDING OFFICE ARE:
- Must be UK citizen or qualifying Commonwealth or EU citizen
- 18 years of age and:
- Is and continues to be a local government elector for the area of the authority; or
- Has during the whole of the 12 months preceding that day occupied as owner or tenant any land or
other premises in that area; or - His or her principal place of work during that 12 months has been in that area; or
- Has during the whole of those 12 months resided in that area or within three miles of it
DISQUALIFICATIONS FOR ELECTION AND HOLDING OFFICE ARE:
- Holding any paid office or employment to which he or she has been appointed by the council (excludes office of chairman and vice chairman)
- He or she is the subject of a bankruptcy restrictions order, an interim bankruptcy restrictions order, a
debt relief restrictions order of an interim debt relief restrictions order - Has within five years before the day of election or since his or her election been convicted of any
offence and sentenced to a term of imprisonment of at least three months (whether suspended or not)
without the option of a fine - He or she has been found guilty of corrupt or illegal practices or was responsible for incurring unlawful expenditure and a court orders disqualification
KEY DATES
- Nominations likely to open around 18th March
- Delivery of nomination papers: by 4pm on 3rd April
- Deadline for withdrawal of nominations: by 4pm on 3rd April
- Publication of statement of persons nominated: by 4pm on 4th April
- Publication of Notice of Poll: not later than 24th April
- Polling Day: 2nd May
- New councillors take office: from Tuesday 7th May (the 6th is a Bank Holiday)
